Key and I had been planning this surprise proposal for months, and the most important thing was that Casey wouldnโt suspect anything.
Instead of choosing Villa del Balbianello, where she might have expected a proposal, we planned everything at the beautiful Villa Melzi in Bellagio. Even my assistant became part of the plan: I pretended to photograph her, so Casey wouldnโt realize that I was actually there for them.
When we reached our chosen spot overlooking Lake Como, Key handed Casey a letter, and that was the moment she started to understand what was happening.
And then he proposed.
Afterwards, we explored the gardens of Villa Melzi for their engagement photos, with beautiful lake views and soft sunset light. We finished the evening with a private boat ride on Lake Como, prosecco, and the most incredible golden-hour atmosphere.
It was such a beautiful experience to be part of, not only photographing the proposal. By the end, Key was so happy with how everything had come together that he joked that I should become a travel agent because I had helped him with so much more than simply taking photographs, from choosing the right place to working through logistics and helping make the entire plan possible.
